The Challenge

In this collaborative project with Estúdio Cru, a renowned design studio from Rio de Janeiro, I had the pleasure of taking on the responsibility of revitalizing the official website for the National Photography Contest organized by the prestigious Aliança Francesa de São Paulo, now in its 12th edition. The main objective was to provide an enhanced online experience for participants and the general public, as well as to announce the opening of the contest with the specific theme for the year 2022.

To achieve this goal, I began by conducting an analysis of the previous website, identifying its shortcomings and areas that needed improvement. I then created a new design with a modern and intuitive approach, focusing on showcasing the submitted photographs, contest information, and available prizes. The use of images and typography would function as part of the artistic exhibition, and the proposed layout by the project’s creative director was to use a simple yet well-blocked grid.

The project involved developing the website in three stages for different periods: 1. pre-contest (theme announcement), 2. registration period, and 3. post-contest (announcement of winners), in addition to the landing page. As a result, over 20 pages were created, including pop-ups and forms, covering the various phases of the contest.

Style and Layout

The new website interface features a clean and responsive layout, making navigation easy across different devices such as desktops, tablets, and smartphones. To highlight the photographs, I employed a minimalist design that utilizes white space as part of the aesthetic and subtle visual elements to create a visually appealing environment.

I integrated interactive elements, such as a simplified online registration form and an image gallery with zoom features, allowing visitors to explore the photographs in more detail.

Final Conclusions

In summary, the web design project for the National Photography Contest of the São Paulo French Alliance aimed to modernize and enhance the online experience of the event, providing participants and the public with an updated, intuitive, and aesthetically pleasing website. The new design highlighted the submitted photographs, relevant information about the contest and prizes, while also promoting participation and the event’s prestige with the presence of renowned photography professionals as judges and mentors.
